What is a good camera for a beginning film maker?

I was thinking about the canon fs10. Its less than 500 and has the basic needs. What do you think. Is their anything better with the same price range? I dont want to make hollywood block buster movies just something to get recognized in local film festivals.|||maybe a fugi film or canon
