How long do I have to wait between a film being released in cinema and dvd release?

I recently saw the new Resident evil movie and I would adore it for christmas if it is released by then but I don't know how long the period is between a film being released in the cinema and its dvd release. Can anyone help?|||It depends on many factors. If the film does very well in theaters, they usually try to keep it there for a while because they make more money from ticket sales than from dvd rentals and purchases. Plus if the movie does very well they will try to add more special features or have multiple editions, like "director's cut" and "2-disk edition". If the movie tanks, it will go to DVD as quickly as possible so that they can get money from rentals. On average, around 6 months to a year, could be much more, could be much less.|||The average time is 120 days from release to dvd..... Iron Man 2 came out in may and is coming out in September.... Sorry to say it will be coming out in January 2011. Christmas movies are usually released way longer....like 370 days for A Crhistmas Carol to come out on DVD.

I work at a movie theater....Im in charge of Films
