What is the best camera to start with, for a wannabe film maker?

I wanna get into documentary and short film making. What is the best camera to start with, for a wannabe film maker? And where do I get one? I live in New Zealand.|||This depends mostly on your budget, how much are you willing to spend? For a true beginning film maker you would probably want to look at Canon's GL2. This is a good entry level 3ccd camcorder with a good optics system and some extra features, such as manual settings and a focus ring. At $2300 it is expensive. If that's too much maybe try looking for one of Panasonic's 3ccd camcorders for around $500 ( all prices in USD ). I've included links to a place where you can buy them on line below. All of the cameras are the PAL version ( I believe New Zealand is Pal..) and they are all from an honest US dealer.|||All i know is that canon cameras are really good. I dont know if they have them in New Zealand but here is the canon site.

Hope you find what you are looking for:)
